Help Your Body Heal Better, Faster and With More Certainty

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on December 3, 2014

How does your body heal?  How can you help it…or should you even try?

In our thoroughly modern, “scientific” age, we employ all sorts of therapies and remedies to “enhance” or “speed” the healing process.  And quite often, we take drugs to ease the pain and symptoms CAUSED by the healing process.  BUT, I would suggest to you that there is a better way.

Now before I start, I’m not telling you not to go to the ER if you’ve been involved in an accident and need immediate attention.  I’m talking about routine chronic problems that never get to heal and diminish your quality of life.  And well, what I’m about to tell you might even help that broken arm heal better, too.

Your body heals itself much like a mason repairs a damaged wall.   A crew is brought in to remove the damaged parts and prepare the way for rebuilding the wall.  Then new materials are brought in to replace the old damaged material.  A competent and capable body (like the mason) will get the job done in the appropriate amount of time.

How does your body repair itself?

How does your body repair itself?

However, If the nervous system is compromised, the process simply will not function appropriately.  It’s like the mason gets the word late and is not quite prepared for the job.  Then we take something to ease the pain and it’s like giving the mason a bottle of booze to keep him from getting mad.  He can’t focus and just takes longer to do the job at less than 100%.

Enter the chiropractor.  He/she makes sure the brain gets the right signal and proper instructions and the right mason are then sent to the damaged/sick area.  The demolition and repair are done correctly and timely.

So if you want to make sure your body heals properly and as efficiently and effectively as possible, find a good chiropractor that ONLY ADJUSTS the spine to remove this thing we call a vertebral subluxation.  You’ll be glad you did.

The cancer patient experience

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on January 30, 2013

My first chiropractor had a patient who was a recovering addict. Brought scores of folks to her practice over the years. Contracted cancer that eventually took him Home. She continued to adjust him till the day of his passing. Many of his friends asked him numerous times why he continued getting adjusted. He would respond “Because I want every ounce of life God gives me while I’m still here.”

I want YOU to get every ounce of life God has given you for the duration of your Earthly experience. God loves you. So do I.

You’re NOT a Piece of Hamburger!

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on November 10, 2010

I grew up in the 60s and 70s when the thinking was to always question authority.  So, I learned to do just that.  Over these many decades, I’ve learned to ask questions.  Lots of questions.

When you ask questions and develop the skill of listening and thinking for yourself, you also become better at knowing when someone is shooting straight with you or giving you a line of BS.  Unfortunately, many folks have not developed their gift of discernment and merely accept what their told as truth.  There’s an old saying about assuming that most folks have heard.  It’s still true.  Generalized assumptions can get you into lots of trouble.

One of those areas that assuming you’ve been told the truth is your health.  There is so much “information” about your body and your health being shoved down our throats that it is sometimes hard to decide what’s true and what’s not.  But, it has been that way for so long that most folks get overwhelmed by the piles of information that it’s just easier for them to assume they’ve been told the truth about drugs, vaccinations, conditions and “diseases”, surgery, etc.  Things like “cholesterol causes heart disease”, “meat is bad for you”, “prescription drugs are safe”, “shots prevent the flu” and so on and so on.

The problem with all these assumptions is that they leave us with the impression that we are our bodies and an assortment of pills, potions, lotions and/or procedures are all we need to be healthy.  NOTHING could be further from the truth.  A friend of mine often says “We are NOT our bodies”.  Still others have said that we’re not physical beings having a spiritual experience but spiritual beings having a physical experience.

By assuming that we are merely machines crafted from flesh and bones directed electricity and chemical reactions, we steal from ourselves the true essence of life itself.  We are, in fact, MORE than our bodies.  Think about it.  There is NO difference between a living person and someone who has just died of a heart attack.  All the chemicals are still the same, the structure is still the same.  They have all the same parts.  But, what is different?  The difference is that intangible thing we call life!

Mechanistic practitioners of the healing arts scoff at the concept of “life force” or “Innate Intelligence”, yet they can never quite put their finger on what causes homeostasis, your body’s vital balancing act.  Sure, they know when that force is present and when it leaves.  But, they can never quite define it.  Many so-called “scientific” practitioners even deny its very existence.

But, you KNOW there’s something in you that wants to be “healthy”, happy and “whole”.  You know that feeling good is more than just not having symptoms.  You also know that somewhere inside you is a desire to be part of something bigger than yourself.  At a time when technology and “knowledge” have reduced humans to little more than lab rats and the culture forced us into machine-like tools of production, the human spirit clamors for freedom.

I believe that is why chiropractic was discovered only 115 years ago.  It took a few generations of production lines and deadlines to become a major source of death, disease and societal mayhem.  Since that time, the pace has only quickened.  We’ve finally reached the point where palliative care and reactions to medical treatments have become as dangerous as the ailments they are designed to treat.  In fact, the whole treatment mentality has become devoid of common sense.

Americans (ALL peoples, in fact) are seeking something, actually anything, that will help them live better, feel better and enjoy their life more.  People are realizing that there is more to life than just getting by.  The search for “meaning” is greater than ever because the separation from “meaning” is greater than it has probably ever been.  Because the simple chiropractic adjustment takes stress off the nervous system, it helps you relate better to your own body as well as your immediate environment.  The longer you keep that stress from piling up on your nervous system, the quicker and deeper you will realize that greater “meaning” that everyone is seeking.

No.  I’m not talking about God.  But, what I am saying is that there are millions of people who say they believe in God yet lean on Medicine for their comfort and hope.  Real comfort, real hope comes from KNOWING who you are, what you are and how powerfully you were truly made.  Chiropractic simply helps you more fully realize your potential for health and happiness.

Love, Fear and Your Health

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on October 5, 2010

Sometimes we get so caught up in the way of the world that we tend to forget some simple truths.  “Scientific” studies are always pointing out ways to treat one condition or the other.  Other “scientific” studies tell us what’s bad for our health.  Yet over time, those “scientific” studies are often shown to have been somewhat errant either in their results, their assumptions or their methods.  We even find that some “scientific” studies are even designed to scare us into buying in to a mindset of fear, sickness and disease that can make us timid, fearful consumers of drugs, treatments and various protections.  To me, this is appalling.

As a former American President once said “All we have to fear is fear itself.”  Nothing could be more accurate.   think about fear for a moment.  When you’re scared, what do you do?  You contract into a defensive posture.  When you stay in a contracted state, you become stiff, inflexible.  Over time, you lose the ability to react to life’s situations appropriately.  Accumulated inappropriate responses causes your body and your life to break down.  Eventually, things start to fall apart.  Finally, you succumb to a lifetime of fearful reactions.  Disease and death overtake you.  In other words, you may live a long time, but you don’t really “live”.  Instead, you die a little every day over a lifetime.  Miserable. Scary.

Let’s look at the other end of the spectrum, love or faith.  What happens when you love?  You open yourself to a world of opportunity and joy and experience.  You grow.  You become flexible and adaptable to life’s situations and challenges.  There’s a passage in the Bible that says “Perfect love casts out fear.”  So when you decide to look for what is good in your life, your body and your relationships, you begin to live expansively.  Life’s challenges become opportunities.  Instead of thinking about death ad disease, your focus is on life and wholeness and health and happiness.  True “science” has shown that stress (or fear) causes heart disease, cancer, strokes, ulcers and chronic and autoimmune disease.  Ask yourself, “What would the opposite cause?”  The answer, of course, is health, wellness, wholeness, happiness and joy.

Life is not always easy.  And, it’s impossible to be happy with every outcome.  But, I will tell you that if you love life, life will love you back.   Open yourself to all that life has to offer.  Look with suspicion at anyone who tries to sell you on fear.  Always question their motives and their methods.  Ponder the magnificence and perfection of Nature and always doubt that anyone could improve on its Design.  And when you do, you will see that perfect love casts out fear.  Be well.

What’s Your Diagnosis? Chiropractic CAN Help!

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on August 11, 2010

Uh oh.  I’ve done it now!  There’s another one of those crazy chiropractors that think they can cure anything from cancer to the common cold.  Close!  Honestly, no doctor of anything EVER cured ANYBODY of ANYTHING.  Healing is a NORMAL, natural part of your design.

What do I mean when I say that “Chiropractic can help regardless of your diagnosis”?  Simply put, chiropractic is NOT a treatment for ANYTHING.  Yet, it’s good for EVERYTHING!

Chiropractic adjustments reduce stress on your nervous system.  Your nervous system controls EVERY function in your body.  Less stress on your nervous system, better function.  Better function, better health.  Better health, faster healing.  Better health, less NEED for healing.

So, find a chiropractor that accepts AL cases instead of one that merely treats limited conditions like back and neck pain.

The Doctor Business Makes Me Sick… It Makes YOU sick, too!

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on April 11, 2010

I talked with a lady yesterday whose son is suffering from a seizure disorder.  The doctors have come up with some exotic name for the problem.  But the long and short of it is that the boy has a problem and they don’t know what to do.

Apparently, his seizures started about two years ago.  In that time, both the strength and amount of drugs being administered this child has steadily increased to the point that he can no longer function normally in school.   As a result, his mom is no longer able to hold a steady teaching job and his older brother has started exhibiting signs of being OCD.  In her search for something that might help her son’s suffering, she ran across one of my videos on YouTube and called a chiropractor near her home for help.

Now, I know firsthand that chiropractic care can help seizure disorders.  And, I recommend anyone diagnosed with epilepsy consult with a chiropractor.  While I’m glad she sought a chiropractor, I’m not so sure SHE was glad.  Sure, she liked the chiropractor.  But having never gone to a chiropractor before, she was somewhat taken aback by the amount and cost of the care recommended.  She was also taken aback by the doctor’s insistence that the entire family get under care.

Don’t get me wrong.  I AM a family wellness chiropractor and I DO recommend lifetime wellness care for the whole family.  However, I DON’T like the practice of scaring people into ANYTHING!   It’s THAT, specifically, that has made this little boy sicker and is destroying his family’s health and finances.

The “Doctor Business” has done more to make America weak and its citizens sick than anything else I know.  The fear of disease and infirmity costs us TRILLIONS of dollars in terms of medical insurance, doctor and hospital bills, malpractice lawsuits, defensive medicine, productivity and taxes.  It REALLY is time for a change.

IF chiropractors REALLY believed what we say about health and wellness, we would talk about the power of living things, especially humans, to be healthy, whole and vital from cradle to grave.  Instead, we tend to focus on the lessening effect of that thing called a “vertebral subluxation”.  Certainly, subluxations DO diminish normal function.  But a chiropractor scaring someone at a spinal screening is no different than an MD pushing blood pressure drugs simply because someone’s blood pressure reading was 140/90.

The wellness mindset is NOT about prevention of cancer, heart disease, diabetes or whatever.  It’s about being as healthy as possible and living as full a life as you can.  THAT is what chiropractic is and can do, too.  In fact, IF chiropractors focused on and TAUGHT you about the Law of Life, we could revolutionize healthcare in America.  If you KNEW you were designed to be healthy and that drugs tend more to make you sicker than better, wouldn’t you look at a different approach?  of course you would!

Take control of your life and your health.  Don’t allow ANY doctor to scare you into ANY treatment regimen.  make them explain what they do, how and why.  After all, YOU are the customer!

The View from Outside the Box

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on December 28, 2008

Surely you’ve heard the term “Think outside the boc”.  I first heard th term in a business workshop way back in the 70s.  We were told to put the following drawing on a piece of paper and told to connect all the dots with four STRAIGHT lines WITHOUT lifting our pencil off the paper.

outside-the-box

It was amazing the gyrations we all went through to get the assignment done.  Well, there were a couple of folks who had seen the exercise done before.  Otherwise, no one had even a clue how to solve the puzzle.  Then the instructor proceeded to show us how the puzzle was solved:

outside-the-box-solved

As we all now know, the ONLY solution for the problem was to draw outside the (imaginary) box created by the dots.  What an awesome metaphor for many (most) of the problems facing our society at this point in time, including the economy, world affairs, politics, education and healthcare.  In fact, many of the problems we face have become SO institutionalized and entrenched that they can NEVER be resolved with the same thinking that caused the problem in the first place.

Let’s consider just healthcare.  As far as any of us can remember, healthcare in this culture has been one of fighting disease.  We start at birth vaccinating kids against all sorts of diseases from routine childhood illnesses like chicken pox and measles to diptheria, smallpox, TB and polio.  As we age, the battle is joined against cancer, heart disease and now diabetes.  Now, we’re being attacked by chronic health problems ranging from chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia to irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis.  And, that says nothing about the proliferation of autoimmune disease.  And lest we forget Restless Leg Syndrome?

In essence, we’ve creasted a “disease managment” system instead of a HEALTH care system.  Drug companies seems to “discover” diseases that they just happen to have a “new” drug that treat THAT diease perfectly.  Unfortunately, that system of “care” has made going to the doctor and paying for it an almost impossible task.  Finally, we’ve reached the point where we’re looking to Government to take over health care.  I take little comfort in knowing that the same folks that are handling Social Security, Medicare, the IRS and Hurricane Katrina will now be taking care of our health decisions.

So, for these and other reasons, I opted out of the traditional Western approach to “health care” a long time ago.  I guess it’s been almost 20 years now that I haven’t taken a drug or gone to the doctor for anything but emergencies.  Well, I DO go to the chiropractor on a regular basis to get adjusted.   But, I don’t go for pain management or any kind of symptom control.   I thought it might be interesting to explain what it’s like on the other side of the healthcare fence looking in.

Even prior to my exposure to the wholistic lifestyle, I was somewhat leery of established Medicine and would only take an aspirin for an occasional headache or when my back problem would flare up.  And, until I got my back problem resolved, there was always a tube of Preparation H in the medicine cabinet.  I don’t rember the last time I took prescription drugs.  The last flu shot I got was in 1975 when Uncle Sam made me get one before letting me out of the Air Force.

The view from outside the box is interesting.  I don’t take drugs.  Period.  I don’t need them.  I don’t get sick.  I also don’t go to doctors.  It’s not that I don’t “believe” in them.  I just don’t need them.  Now, if I were involved in a car accident or broke a leg, I’d be the first to go to the ER because that’s where Medicine shines.  Otherwise, I just don’t need it.  I don’t have a cardiologist, proctologist, orthopedist, neurologist (although I’ve referred folks to a few) or even a General Practitioner.  Are there any of those even left?  Now, quite a few folks have asked me “What if…?”  And, my response is “What if…what?”  The point is I simply don’t live in that “disease” world.  I don’t know what ny blood pressure is or my cholesterol level or my bone density or if I have polyps.  I don’t care.

Because I know that we were designed to be healthy, my focus is on health, not disease.  I know that if I eat right, exercise, drink water, develop and maintain a good attitude and spiritual life, get adjusted and do those things that help build HEALTH, I’ve done all I can do.  And because of my fiath and what I know about health, I am not afraid of living or dying.

When I look inside the box, I see folks living in fear of cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, etc.  Their lives are consumed running from disease.  And, by the time many folks are 60 they have those little boxes with pills for every day of the week.  They run to the doctor every time they have a cold or a symptom.   Some folks I know spend almost a thousand bucks a month on “health” insurance that typically covers far less than people really need.  Health costs has virtually driven American automakers out of business.  Even folks with “good” insurance aren’t immune to the fear of disease.  In fact, I know several millionaires who suffer from anxiety attacks and the same diseases that afflict the poor.

The main difference in the perspectives on either side of the box is fear.  From the inside, fear rules and limits one’s fullest expression and enjoyment of life.  From outside the box, a sense of peace about health is the rule rather than the exception.  Now, I’m not necessarily telling folks to cancel their insurance and shoot their doctors.  But what I am saying is that there is another way to view health and life.  In a later post, I’ll talk more about inspired living.  Until then, consider all your alternatives.

Law of Attraction and Your Health

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on December 4, 2008

I have always been one of those crazy “positive thinkers” that believes anything is possible.  Maybe it comes from my belief that we would not have been given the ability to imagine and dream if we weren’t also equipped to realize or actualize those dreams.  But maybe, it also comes from the hundreds of examples in my own life of things (good and bad) happening AFTER having created the very situation in my own mind, FIRST.

It’s funny (in a sad way) that many of my Christian friends so readily and strongly dismiss “The Secret” and the “Law of Attraction” as being evil in some way.  To me, they are absolute evidence of God’s Hand in all things.  In fact, the Bible tells us to pray EXPECTING that what we have asked for HAS ALREADY been given AND that even the faith of a tiny mustard seed could push the mountain into the sea.

I like the Law of Attraction.  It makes sense to me.  It has proven itself to work for me in so many circumstances it’s almost hard to count.  And, it’s pretty much as simple as “What you think about comes about”.  If you think about it, every creation of Mankind from the first tool to the space shuttle was first an idea in someone’s mind.  And the longer that thought remained in someone’s mind, the closer it got to becoming a reality.  Eventually, the idea became reality.

OK, so you’re probably thinking, “So how does the Law of Attraction have ANYTHING to do with my health?”  Well, I’m glad you asked!

In our culture, we have this obsession with disease.  From birth, we’re taught to fear disease instead of how to build health.  We inject our babies with all sorts of stuff to avoid childhood diseases instead of allowing their bodies to build lifetime immunity.  Every year, millions of us get a flu shot even though many wonder IF it can prevent the flu.  We label creative, active kids bored with sitting at a desk all day as having ADD or ADHD.  What used to be considered a “normal” blood pressure reading is now considered “pre-hypertensive”.  The mention of the word “cancer” strikes fear in the heart of almost any living person.  And, everyone knows at least one person who takes “an aspirin a day” to prevent stroke when that habit alone cold CAUSE a massive stroke itself.  It’s even gotten so ridiculous that now we even have a disease called “Restless Leg Syndrome”.  Give me a break!

In other words, our hyper-focus on disease has made us one of the sickest nations on the planet.  We’re sick because we THINK about sickness and disease.  Probably the most profitable industries IN THE WORLD is the pharmaceutical industry.  They spend BILLIONS of dollars convincing you that you’re sick and that THEY can ease your suffering with their magic pills and potions.  Unfortunately, neither they nor the Government tells you adequately of the dangers related to their concoctions.

BUT, there IS a better way!  That way is to simply BE WELL.  Now, some of you are saying “This guy is crazy!”  But, wait!  This is where the Law of Attraction comes in.  Think about how your life would be IF you were well.  Instead of spending your time worrying about one disease or another, you’d be thinking of how to make your life better or what you were going to do this weekend with your kids or your special someone.  You’d be LIVING instead of “not dying”.  See where I’m going with all this?

My favorite author on the topic of the Law of Attraction is Michael Losier.  One of the things Losier would tell you is to draw a line down the middle of a notepad.  On one side, make a list of what about your life you don’t like or don’t want, like “I don’t want to be sick, any more” or even “I must exercise and watch my diet so I won’t get cancer or have a heart attack”.  Notice where the focus is on these statements?  Right!  They’re focused on what you DON’T want.  On the other side of the page, restate what you DO want, like “I LOVE being healthy and working toward even better health!” or “I LOVE working out and eating good food.  It makes me look great and feel even better!” or even “You know, I’m a better lover because my health is so good!” SEE the difference?

Now when your focus is on good health, you start doing the same things healthy people do.  You exercise because you LIKE it.  You eat better because it makes you FEEL better.  You go to the chiropractor because it helps you BE a better you.  You even work on your spiritual life because it enhances your life.  In other words, your focus on health and life automatically lead you to do those things that take you closer to that vision.

You can only run so hard and so long FROM something you fear.  When you’re running TO something you want, you can pace yourself and run forever even enjoying the scenery along the way.

I can tell you that for me, it has made a world of difference.  Between my faith and knowledge of where health REALLY comes from, I can LIVE today and look forward to tomorrow WITHOUT fear of what MIGHT, or might not, happen.  When your thoughts are on wholeness, joy and peace within and without, life takes on a whole new meaning.

So, think good thoughts.  See BIG things for yourself and those around you.  Make your life a canvass on which you paint the biggest and brightest and most beautiful life you possibly can.  Remember, EVERYTHING starts with a thought.  Think BIG!

Why I Don’t Take Medicine

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on March 9, 2008

Many of my friends think I’m a little crazy because I don’t take medicine.  It’s funny in a way.  Some people think it’s because I’m a chiropractor, I’ve been brainwashed into hating both medicine and Medicine.  But, it’s really just the opposite.  Chiropractic made sense to me BECAUSE of my skepticism and cynicism about drugs and the practice of medicine.

Don’t get me wrong.  There have been times in my life when I have taken medicine, usually over-the-counter pain killers for an occasional headache or when my back would go out.  BUT, it’s been almost twenty years since I’ve taken a pill of any kind.  And, I will admit that both of my kids have been to the Emergency Room.  In my mind medicine shines in the Emergency Room.

And at this point, I must say that while I’d like to help thousands (why not millions) of people learn to live a life without dependence on drugs, I never feel compelled to tell them NOT to take drugs.  Yes, of course I want to help people get off drugs.  But that’s a personal decision.

But for me, the thought of taking pills for virtually ANY condition has always repulsed me.   I grew up in a home where both parents were alcoholics.  At that time there were few drugs for depression or anxiety.  So, they self-medicated their pain and misery with booze.  Then, they’d have to take aspirin the next day to cope with hangovers.  Then, maybe Pepto Bismol  to settle their stomach from the effects of drinking and bad eating.  And over the years, I’ve seen friends and family members taken untold different drugs to manage symptoms or conditions and then to manage side effects of the drugs taken for the original symptoms.

Another thing that affected me deeply was watching my other live in constant fear of the dreaded “C” word, cancer.  I remember her taking vitamins and other supplements out of sheer fear of cancer.  She would do anything to avoid the disease.  She feared even going to the doctor because she thought that whatever symptoms she might be experiencing was cancer.  When she died at 43, it was from liver failure cause by her self-medication with alcohol WITHOUT any evidence of cancer whatsoever.

I decided early on that I would live my life to the fullest, staying as healthy as I could and getting everything I could from every experience, good or bad, without having to lean on some drug to help me thought the day or the problem.  And I must tell you, I don’t worry about heart disease, cancer, stroke, anxiety, depression, restless leg syndrome or whatever the disease dujour might be.  Because I know that drugs are not part of my health regimen, neither is disease.  It really is an awesome way to live.

The premise that our bodies were designed for health and NOT with a deficit of drugs or too many parts  simply makes sense to me.  And honestly, most of the people who come to me have already tried the medical approach with little or no success and have decided to try a drug-free approach.  And if you wanted to live a life free of drugs and fear of disease, wouldn’t you want a doctor who lived that lifestyle himself?  I believe so.
