Help Your Body Heal Better, Faster and With More Certainty

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on December 3, 2014

How does your body heal?  How can you help it…or should you even try?

In our thoroughly modern, “scientific” age, we employ all sorts of therapies and remedies to “enhance” or “speed” the healing process.  And quite often, we take drugs to ease the pain and symptoms CAUSED by the healing process.  BUT, I would suggest to you that there is a better way.

Now before I start, I’m not telling you not to go to the ER if you’ve been involved in an accident and need immediate attention.  I’m talking about routine chronic problems that never get to heal and diminish your quality of life.  And well, what I’m about to tell you might even help that broken arm heal better, too.

Your body heals itself much like a mason repairs a damaged wall.   A crew is brought in to remove the damaged parts and prepare the way for rebuilding the wall.  Then new materials are brought in to replace the old damaged material.  A competent and capable body (like the mason) will get the job done in the appropriate amount of time.

How does your body repair itself?

How does your body repair itself?

However, If the nervous system is compromised, the process simply will not function appropriately.  It’s like the mason gets the word late and is not quite prepared for the job.  Then we take something to ease the pain and it’s like giving the mason a bottle of booze to keep him from getting mad.  He can’t focus and just takes longer to do the job at less than 100%.

Enter the chiropractor.  He/she makes sure the brain gets the right signal and proper instructions and the right mason are then sent to the damaged/sick area.  The demolition and repair are done correctly and timely.

So if you want to make sure your body heals properly and as efficiently and effectively as possible, find a good chiropractor that ONLY ADJUSTS the spine to remove this thing we call a vertebral subluxation.  You’ll be glad you did.

Are you funcioning in an altered state of consciousness?

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on August 27, 2014

You could be.

You already know that Americans take more drugs of any kind of any other country on the planet.  In fact, ALL the other countries in the World COMBINED take a mere fraction of the drugs that Americans do.  A large portion of those drugs are for diagnosed psychiatric conditions, including Depression, ADD/ADHD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc.  Another large portion of those drugs are for pain and other symptoms, and some are taken for chronic health conditions.  Some are prescribed and some are bought over the counter.

But there’s one thing they ALL have in common, they alter your (and your body’s) state of consciousness.  That’s right.  Every drug you take affects how you see the world.  And how you see the world, determines your thoughts, emotions and actions.

Look.  I’m not saying all medications are bad…in the short term.  What I AM saying is that drugs work BECAUSE they are designed to convince your body it either has something it’s not supposed to have or doesn’t have something it should.  In other words, drugs trick your body into behaving a certain way, whether that is altering chemical levels, suppressing normal immune function or directly affecting your brain and nervous system.

Without saying ANYTHING about all the potential hazards and side-effects posed by taking ANY drug, the long term affect of altering your body’s normal responses to even a single problem can be devastating.  Whether it’s diminished function of a particular system in the body or bad decision making or outright addiction, they all lead to a lower quality of life for you, your friends and associates, and your family members.  When you multiply that by the tens of millions of people taking drugs/medications, you can see the potential harm to an entire culture.

The thing I love most about Chiropractic is that it’s purpose is to help you function at a higher lever NO MATTER what your current circumstance may be.  And the longer you function at higher levels of awareness, the better your life can be.  Imagine how different your life would be right now and how much better it could be if you improved your thoughts, decisions and actions could improve by just 10%.  I think it would be remarkable.

Do what you can to get clean and stay clear.  Your life will thank you for it.

The Nursing Home Hallway

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on August 9, 2010

By the time you reach my age, you’ve had hundreds of opportunities to visit family and/or friends in a nursing home.  I can’t think of a place that is more depressing that the nursing home.

There’s this image burned in my mind of walking down the hall amid all the wheelchairs occupied by sad, bent over little elderly folks trapped in a body and in a situation that they simply can’t escape.  As you make your way past, some reach out seemingly wanting a touch they’ve not received form a loved one in a long time, while others stare blankly though a drug-induced stuper.  Sometimes, you’ll see residents visiting with family members.  Unfortunately, far too many have become a burden on their families and have just been abandoned.

My heart aches every time I enter that realm.  I hate seeing suffering, especially in children and old folks.  I know there simply are some situation where grandma or grandpa may have a physical condition that must be monitored around the clock.  BUT, there simply has to be another way.  Some suffering just can’t be prevented.  But in my opinion, much of what I see in nursing homes surely can.

While I acknowledge the problems in nursing homes along with the costs, abuse and inefficiencies, my focus here is on keeping YOU out of them.  Most of the problems in nursing homes WON’T affect you IF you don’t need to be there in the first place!

If you’re one of those folks already betting against yourself by buying long-term care insurance, you’re probably not going to be interested in what I have to say.  You’ve already bought in to the notion that YOU will be one of those folks withering away in the hallway.  However, given that costs keep rising and insurance rarely covers everything you thought it did when you bought the policy, you might just read on.  Just in case.

Many people end up in the nursing home after years (or decades) of dutifully taking drugs prescribed by the doctors for various conditions.  There’s no use in going over the litany of drugs old folks take.  We’ve all seen folks with those little blue things marked for every day of the week and how they’ll spend a Sunday afternoon getting their “meds” ready for the next week.  Studies have shown that the typical American senior citizen takes and average of 12-15 different prescriptions.

The problem here is that EVERY drug has a “side effect”.  Many drugs are prescribed to counter the “side effects of another drug.  And since the way a drug works is to fool the body into thinking it has something it doesn’t or doesn’t have something it does, years (or decades) of this abuse will simply make a person dysfunctional, either mentally, physically or spiritually OR all combined.

What if you could start RIGHT NOW weaning yourself off drugs and move towards a healthy vital life?  What if you could be independent until your time comes to check out?  Wouldn’t you prefer THAT to wasting away in the nursing home hallway?

Here’s a better way.  If you’re taking medication for ANY condition, make your doctor explain WHY you’re taking a particular drug and how the drug works.  Educate yourself on the condition.  Begin TODAY working toward a more natural solution to your problem.  Also, begin TODAY learning more about how your body works and the principles of life.  Once you compare how you are SUPPOSED  to be with the way you’ve been told you are, you’re in a better position to make some sound decisions on your healthcare.

Another powerful strategy for better living is to seek out what is called a Principled chiropractor.  This is a special kind of chiropractor that will help you learn these principles of life while helping you remove a critical source of stress on how your body should function.  They also won’t run up expensive bills on therapy modalities of dubious value.  A clear nervous system combined with a less toxic body will help you live a better life NOW and help you avoid the nursing home hallway later.

Good health is NOT a coincidence or an accident.  It is deliberate.   It’s a decision you make and a plan that you follow.  Bad health is usually the result of an accumulation of bad decisions.

So, if you believe you’re on the wrong track, start turning the train around NOW.  You CAN!

What IS a Chiropractic Smile?

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on May 24, 2010

Have you ever known someone who just always seems to be smiling?  They seem to ALWAYS feel good.  Nothing seems to bother them.

Well, what you’re seeing is someone who’s comfortable in their own skin.  They’re confident in who they are and what they are.  Life is not defined by their fears but by their faith in knowing they don’t have to live in fear…of anything.

OK.  So what does this have to do with chiropractic?  You probably know folks like that who have NEVER seen a chiropractor.  So have I. BUT, I’ve also seen lots of folks over the years who USED to live in fear of sickness, disease, infirmity and uncertainty who now live powerful lives.  OK.  OK.  Chiropractic.

Here’s the real power of chiropractic.  Chiropractic is based on the premise that everything in the Universe is organized.  In fact, that organization gives all matter its properties and maintains it in existence.  And, that organization is obviously in all living things.  In living things, that mechanism’s job is to help you (and all living things) be the MOST and ?BEST you can be.  It interprets the environment and stimulus around you and responds appropriately.  It knows what is the right chemical balance in YOUR body and dispenses the right hormones in the right amount at the right time.  Really, it’s beautiful!

In fact, it’s the “thing” that keeps all the individual cells, tissues, organs and systems in your body working together in harmony to keep you functioning.   It’s THAT mechanism that leaves a living thing when it dies.  In fact, that mechanism STOPS working the moment you die.  There is STILL life in your body.  It’s just not coordinated.  The life that’s left is random, each individual cell doing ITS very best to survive.  That’s what happens when your body decomposes.  The organizing mechanism leaves you and chaos is left.

That organizing mechanism CAN be diminished in living things, particularly humans.  It can be disturbed by chemical, physical or emotional stress.  The more of these stresses that exists, the more chaotic the organization of the function of the cells, tissues, organs and systems in your body.  In other words, the diminished organization actually causes “less life”.  Eventually, this can lead to sickness, infirmity and disease.  In an effort to deal with the symptoms of this disorganization, people are convinced that drugs can help or that surgery can remove an offending organ.  Sadly, these remedies only mask the EFFECTS of a disorganized body while allowing the REAL problem to continue.

Folks under long term chiropractic wellness care routinely remove a significant cause of this disorganization.  So, their bodies work in a more organized way.  When that happens, they have less need for drugs or surgery.  As they learn to trust and listen to their bodies, they move in a more powerful, independent way.  Their confidence in themselves, their design and the Design for their life continues to grow.  The more they’re able and willing to listen to that little voice inside them, the more powerful their health and life.  Things just work better.  And like money invested routinely with interest and dividends reinvested, their life becomes even more dynamic.

So, the chiropractic smile is power, strength, confidence and joy on the inside expressed on the outside.  My wish for you is that you’ll want to experience this power in your life.  Find a wellness chiropractor that is confident in your potential.  If you can’t find one or don’t know how to find one near you, let me know.  I’ll help you find one.

Melba: 69 years old and NO drugs!

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on January 16, 2009

I’ve talked about my friend, Melba, before and her Minute Clinic experience.  Well, Melba’s at it again.  She’s still astounding (and confounding) the medical folks while wondering why folks don’t understand a drug-free lifestyle.

Melba was involved in a car accident a couple of weeks ago with a severe injury to her ankle.  Obviously, she was transported to the hospital where she would undergo surgery to pin those ankle bones together.   Just before going into the operating Room the surgeon came out and said, “I had to hear this for myself.  They don’t me you don’t take ANY drugs for ANYTHING.  Is that right?”  Melba’s response was, “Well, no.  Of course not.”  The doctor then asked her name and age to make sure she was coherent, shook his head and said, simply “Wow”.

Because Melba lives alone and will require some rehab on her ankle, she was transferred to a local assisted living facility.  Of course, most of these “assisted living” facilities are simply Medicare funding holding cells for old folks before sending them home or to their permanent residence.  Many of the residents there are simply drugged out of their minds and spend their days either in bed or in a wheel chair and pushed out into the hallway.    So far, she’s been there a little over a week.  She’s going a little crazy.

You see, Melba is 69 years old and hasn’t taken drugs for at least 40 years.  She understands that her body’s default mode is to be healthy and drug-free.  Her first experience with the “establishment” mentality was after three days of laing in bed, she got up, got in the wheelchair and rolled herself outside to get some fresh air.  Later, a caretaker said “You can’t do that!  You need to let us know ANY time you get out of bed, go to the bathroom or do anything.”  In a way that only folks approaching 70 can do, “Well, they can just kiss my ass!”  I thought I would die laughing.

Melba went back to the hospital yesterday to have some surgical staples removed and a permanent cast put on her ankle.  The doctor asked if she needed anything for pain.  Of course, she refused.  The doctor said “you’re tough”, to which she replied “Not tough.  Just realistic”.  Melba’s point was that she KNOWS that pain is part of the healing process and is there partly to keep her from doing something stupid before her ankle is ready.

At 69, Melba looks around at others her age (and younger!) and wonders “How can anyone WANT to live out their senior years like THIS?!”  In many conversations we’ve had, Melba asks “Why don’t they get it?  How can people stand to live this way?”  She talks about her best friend who’s had well over a dozen different surgeries and take numerous medications.  Her friend’s response to Melba’s ability to live drug-free is that Melba has just been lucky.  Melba realizes, though, that luck has NOTHING to do with living healthy WITHOUT drugs.  It is pure INTENT!

When I told Melba I was going to write about her experience, she said to make sure that people KNOW that they CAN be healthy without drugs and that they don’t have to fear life.  They CAN enjoy it IF only they would!

So, here you go, Melba.  Folks, you were designed to be healthy, strong and vibrant.  You were designed to run and jump and play al out, every day until your time is up.  You don’t have to live the last part of your life wasting away.  Don’t wait until you find yourself wasting away in a ursing home to decide you WANTED to live a better life.  Start TODAY moving toward a healthy, drug-free life.  Enjoy every day!

World’s Most Powerful Drug Rarely Used.

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on September 26, 2008

There is one single drug that is so powerful that all others are compared against it.  Yet, this powerful drug has been cast aside by thoroughly modern, mechanistic Medicine.

Part of the problem with this drug is it’s cost.  It is virtually FREE!  It can be found anywhere.  That’s right, anywhere!  You don’t even have to go to the rain forest to find it.

There’s another problem with this powerful antidote.  It is SIMPLE!  There are NO side-effects or potential damage to your nervoucs system, your digestive system, your circulatory system, your digestive sstem or your skeletal system.  It’s harmless.

And, there’s one more problem with this awesome drug.  It’s available without prescription and you don’t have to worry about it being covered on your “health” insurance plan.

You’ve probably guessed by now that this powerful “miracle” drug, is the placebo.  That’s right.  The lowly sugar pill is used to measure the effectiveness of every drug manufactured.  For a drug to be marketed as being effective for treating any given disease or condition, it must be more effective than the sugar pill in randomized, double-blind studies.

In other words, the fact that a pill you THINK is helping you is THE standard against which all other drugs is measured should give you great pause.  If your thoughts are THAT powerful, what else can they do?  Better yet, if your thoughts are that powerful and have no dangerous side-effects how can you use your mind more effectively?

You were designed to be healthy.  That is your body’s default.  When you think healthy thoughts, you act healthy.  You make better decisions.  You begin to rely less on outside (and potentially dangerous) methods for dealing with your problems.

When thinking about your health, think in BIG terms and about how to be the best you possible without drugs.  You’d be amazed at how powerful, strong and healthy you actually are.

Healing Faith

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on March 14, 2008

The most powerful drug known to Mankind can’t be found in some exotic plant in the Rain Forest. Nor, is it a miracle of modern science. Nor, is it so expensive that only the rich can afford it.

In fact, the most powerful drug ever known is the sugar pill, the placebo. The efficacy, or effectiveness, of any drug is compared against the effects of the placebo. Only when it is shown that the new drug is better than nothing more than sugar (and a suggestion) is it approved for use on the consuming public. And, the great thing about the placebo is that it has NO side effects! And, it FREE!

Surely, it’s not the sugar in the pill that makes the placebo so powerful. Of course not. The power of the placebo is something already inside the patient. As much as “scientists” hate to admit it, the ingredient that makes the sugar pill so powerful is faith. Faith that the pill will actually work! Faith that healing is STILL available.

Several studies (“scientific” double blind studies) in recent years have shown that a doctor praying for his/her patients actually helps the patient heal faster and better than when no one prayed for the patient, at all. Other studies have shown that patients with a loving family and/or a strong spiritual life heal quicker and better, as well.

What is it about faith (or the “placebo effect”) that is so powerful? Is it simply hope? Or is there more? I believe it’s much more than mere hope. Hope implies that you’re not sure of a certain outcome, but willing to give it a try. OR, “I’ve tried everything else, so I might as well give this a try”. You might have some level of confidence in the science or technology behind a doctor’s recommendation. But, that’s about it.

Faith is much more. Faith is KNOWING that you will get the best outcome possible. So, you move forward with confidence that all the factors have aligned in your favor. When you ACT with faith and unwavering confidence, you improve your odds greatly.

BUT, there’s an essential element of faith that’s required to mobilize it in your healing, ACTION. It has been said that “Faith without action is dead”. I guess that says it all. By taking action toward your healing (or ANY objective for that matter) you exhibit your faith. When you take action, you’re actually telling your body to mobilize all its parts and mechanisms to do the job for which it was designed. You literally get out of the way and allow the mechanism to work.

This is not spiritual hocus pocus. Your body was designed for self-healing and self-repair. It KNOWS to rush blood to an injury. It KNOWS how and when to use the inflammatory response to begin the healing process. It KNOWS the right amount of what hormones and chemicals to dispense for ANY given situation. Unfortunately we often impede (or delay) our own healing many times with outside interventions.

Here’s the point. You were designed to be healthy, to heal and to be whole. Not using your faith is like trying to wash your car without using water or not taking your sponge out of its wrapper. You just make things harder for yourself.

So, how do you use your faith ACTIVELY? Pray for your healing. And when you pray, DON’T BEG! Ask, knowing that it already done. In other words, give thanks for the healing that you’ve already received just not yet revealed. Healing is a process. It takes time! Give it time! Then start doing the things you would do IF you were healed. Again, behave as you would were you already healed. Study health and healing. Understand the symptoms of healing. That’s right. There are symptoms that reveal that healing is taking place. Unfortunately, many of those symptoms are treated as signs of pathology. ow sad that the very signs of healing can be interpreted as just the opposite. Finally, rejoice. Celebrate in advance of the physical evidence of your healing. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel simply by accepting your gift of healing.

In closing, I want to urge you to use your faith actively in all aspects of your life. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish merely by believing YOU CAN! You were designed to do and be greater than you’ve ever been allowed to believe you could be. I honestly believe that you were designed to imagine possibilities. And IF you can imagine it, you can have it. BUT, you MUST believe. And as has been said “Your faith has made you whole”.

May you prosper and be in good health!

Drugs in Your Drinking Water

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on March 10, 2008

This drug-culture thing has simply gone too far! The Associated Press released the results of a months long investigation into the drinking water of dozens of major US cities and found traces of various medications in the water supply. If every drug has a side effect, how would some of these drugs affect a healthy person, especially with prolonged undetected exposure?

How long before the Congress tries to pass legislation making it impossible to sue drug manufacturers or municipal water treatment agencies for health problems caused by exposure to dangerous drugs in our drinking water?

AP Probe Finds Drugs in Drinking Water.

Why I Don’t Take Medicine

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on March 9, 2008

Many of my friends think I’m a little crazy because I don’t take medicine.  It’s funny in a way.  Some people think it’s because I’m a chiropractor, I’ve been brainwashed into hating both medicine and Medicine.  But, it’s really just the opposite.  Chiropractic made sense to me BECAUSE of my skepticism and cynicism about drugs and the practice of medicine.

Don’t get me wrong.  There have been times in my life when I have taken medicine, usually over-the-counter pain killers for an occasional headache or when my back would go out.  BUT, it’s been almost twenty years since I’ve taken a pill of any kind.  And, I will admit that both of my kids have been to the Emergency Room.  In my mind medicine shines in the Emergency Room.

And at this point, I must say that while I’d like to help thousands (why not millions) of people learn to live a life without dependence on drugs, I never feel compelled to tell them NOT to take drugs.  Yes, of course I want to help people get off drugs.  But that’s a personal decision.

But for me, the thought of taking pills for virtually ANY condition has always repulsed me.   I grew up in a home where both parents were alcoholics.  At that time there were few drugs for depression or anxiety.  So, they self-medicated their pain and misery with booze.  Then, they’d have to take aspirin the next day to cope with hangovers.  Then, maybe Pepto Bismol  to settle their stomach from the effects of drinking and bad eating.  And over the years, I’ve seen friends and family members taken untold different drugs to manage symptoms or conditions and then to manage side effects of the drugs taken for the original symptoms.

Another thing that affected me deeply was watching my other live in constant fear of the dreaded “C” word, cancer.  I remember her taking vitamins and other supplements out of sheer fear of cancer.  She would do anything to avoid the disease.  She feared even going to the doctor because she thought that whatever symptoms she might be experiencing was cancer.  When she died at 43, it was from liver failure cause by her self-medication with alcohol WITHOUT any evidence of cancer whatsoever.

I decided early on that I would live my life to the fullest, staying as healthy as I could and getting everything I could from every experience, good or bad, without having to lean on some drug to help me thought the day or the problem.  And I must tell you, I don’t worry about heart disease, cancer, stroke, anxiety, depression, restless leg syndrome or whatever the disease dujour might be.  Because I know that drugs are not part of my health regimen, neither is disease.  It really is an awesome way to live.

The premise that our bodies were designed for health and NOT with a deficit of drugs or too many parts  simply makes sense to me.  And honestly, most of the people who come to me have already tried the medical approach with little or no success and have decided to try a drug-free approach.  And if you wanted to live a life free of drugs and fear of disease, wouldn’t you want a doctor who lived that lifestyle himself?  I believe so.
