Memorial Day

Posted by Marietta chiropractor on May 21, 2007

As Americans, we are able to take so many things for granted. Probably the most blessed nation on Earth, we enjoy a quality of life unparalleled in the history of Mankind.

Sadly, one of the things we seem to appreciate least is freedom. Freedom to express your discontent with your government. Freedom to live and travel wherever across this great land we choose. In America, you can still choose your own doctor, even if it means you might sometimes have to pay for it yourself. The ability to worship in accordance with your own beliefs without fear or intimidation is still a fundamental right in America. And while we do have crime, we are still relatively free of routine terroristic threats to ourselves, our families and our way of life.

But, as trite as it may sound, freedom is not free. It comes at a great cost. There’s a passage in the Bible that says “To whom much is given much is expected.” And, America’s freedom has been paid for many times with the blood and lives of those willing  to risk their own lives to protect those they’ll never know or who may even curse their efforts.

But, those who serve do so because of a higher calling, one that can’t be quantified or even explained sometimes. It is out of a sense of duty, honor, higher love and service to his (or her) fellow man. Somewhere else in the Book of Wisdom it says “No greater love is this that a man would lay down his life for a friend.” As this Memorial Day weekend approaches, and as you enjoy your cookout, the pool or the ball game, remember that someone is on duty or has made the ultimate sacrifice so that you could enjoy that time in peace and freedom.

As a personal gift to those who have and do serve and protect our freedoms, I will keep my office open all day on Memorial Day and offer free chiropractic care to all active duty military personnel, any veteran of military service and active public safety personnel. Further, I ask that you embrace the opportunity to serve those who serve us, as well. When you see a soldier, airman, sailor, police officer or firefighter in public, buy their meal or simply express your appreciation for their service. And, take just a moment to say prayer of thanks for the many blessings you have as an American and for those who paid the price.

Please feel free to pass this message along to someone who might benefit some encouragement or who might need a little hope. Thanks.
